A Little About ME

Meet Melissa

My name is Melissa Herrmann Dierks, owner of the Huntersville based Eat Smart Nutrition Co. I have worked as a dietitian and diabetes educator in the Charlotte area since 1992.

I am mom to my son, Jack, and am an animal lover who participates in foster and rescue programs for dogs and cats.

My family is from South Dakota. I grew up in the metro Detroit area and moved to Charlotte to work at Novant Presbyterian Hospital and the former Charlotte based Joslin Clinic.

I am a cancer survivor and understand what it feels like to experience health challenges.

As a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, I teach diabetes self-management skills, including insulin pump and CGM training. I have extensive experience helping families who have a child newly diagnosed with diabetes, and can help you create a meal plan and shopping list that work for your child and the entire family.

My Career

I started my career with a year-long internship in the Henry Ford Healthcare System in Detroit. My internship program focused on clinical nutrition and medical nutrition therapy, providing a strong background to work with people with health issues that can be improved with nutrition. I trained under nationally recognized endocrinologists and diabetes educators during my internship year. I then went on to work in a variety of hospital settings, home health, and diabetes clinics - including a Joslin clinic - before expanding my career into working in the diabetes industry.

What Does That Mean For You?

I enjoyed your knowledgeable, friendly, kind, non-judgmental approach, as well as, communicating in an easy to understand manner without medical jargon. Excellent! I had the pleasure of getting to know Melissa during our volunteer positions with the diabetes dietetic practice group. Melissa displays all the qualities of being a team player and leader. She always went the extra mile above and beyond the volunteer tasks. I'm proud to have her as a colleague who I can call upon to brainstorm ideas within the world of diabetes and dietetics.
I've had the good fortune to work with Melissa and highly recommend her! She is reliable, intentional, strategic, efficient, conscientious, and a pleasure to collaborate with. What sets Melissa apart is the knowledge she possesses from not only a clinical standpoint but also from a sales and business development standpoint, which is incredibly beneficial.
